TIPS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Books:

If you want to learn more about Czech modern history,  architecture or legends, I highly recommend reading the following books:

Genius Loci

by the famous architect Christian Norbert-Schulz.
An unusual books about architecture. One part of the book is dedicated to Prague. It´s ´genius loci´, the amazing location in the heart of Europe, closiness to the river, mixcure of different architectual styles and discribing why you get enchanted so quickly.

´Prague Winter´ by Madeleine Albright

The formar US Secretary of State gives a deep personal memory on the events of modern history-like the Nazi occupation of Prague, events of the World War II and the rise of communism.

´The Golem´ by Gustav Meyrink

An unusual story depicting the atmosphere of the former Jewish Town in Prague. The most popular legend talks about an artificual creature called ´Golem´ created by Rabbi Löw. In this story, the golem awakes every 33 years and appears as a ghost in the mysterious alleys of the Jewish Town.

Travel tips:

Czech republic:

I recommend many beautiful castles around Prague: Karlstejn, Konopiste or Krivoklat.
Very popular are the Czech spas in Karlovy Vary, Marianske lazne or Frantiskovy lazne or ´Plzen´-home of the famous Pilsner Urquell Beer

Berlin:

Every time I travel abroad, I wish to see not only the main sites, but to experience the city off the beaten path. Matti´s tours are a great mix of architecture, modern history, humor and personal experiences.
